The boss came by this morning and gave me a list of things to do and the keys to this truck we keep out back. He knew I was going to be slack of work to do in the next couple of days, so he told me to please check the oil level. In this case he was not talking about the oil in the engine of the truck, but in the little air compressor which provides air for the set of air horns mounted on the top of the cab. Obviously he wants the truck to look sparkling new. It has a whole lot of chrome that needs to be shiny and he wants the truck to waxed to a mirror finish. It is not as hard as it sounds, because this truck hardly ever leaves the shop and it is rarely exposed to rain or dirt.
In fact it is a parade truck. The boss is one of those people who really loves for people to look at him and he had this truck built for the specific purpose of pulling floats in the holiday parades. I have to admit that it is a really cool looking truck, although it is really just a modern Ford F-350 chassis which was wrecked by some drunk driver. This guy he knows took the chassis and figured out that it had not been bent, which would have made it useless. Then he found an old Ford truck cab. A cabinet maker built the wood work on the rear part of the truck, which is pretty beautiful. That is a big sign for the company really, which is how you get a truck like this and spent a big pile of money on it without fretting over it. It comes out of the ad budget.
Just got moved in here, have not gotten my stuff out of the boxes. In fact we had a good bit of trouble working with the landlord to get in this place. The previous tenant was not really thinking that it was time for him to leave, apparently this had been going on for a good while and when I got there they had rented me a place which was in dispute. Right now I have trouble finding one of the local high speed internet providers who will hook up my internet for me. At the moment the cable company has an account in some other person’s name at this address, the guy who did not like to get evicted in a timely manner. So they will not let me have cable tv or the internet here until they decide that I am the person who lives here.
The guy is being a great big pain in my butt and I have no idea who he is. In fact this morning there was a repo man in the yard when I went to go to work. He apparently thought I was this guy and wanted to know where I had hidden the car that the loan company wanted to take back from him. He seems to have been a very popular fellow. The neighbor tells me that he was in the business of some sort of scheme. It is hard for me to figure out what he means from a distance and using second hand sources, but it seems pretty clear that the guy was playing fast and loose with the facts. He was doing some sort of scheme with reselling goods, but it is hard to see if there is any real product or if he was trying to steal from people.
I have decided that I can afford to buy this house, but I am not really sure if it is going to be too expensive for me to own the house. The big problem is that I think the roof will have to be replaced in a short time. That is going to be pretty expensive and it is going to need to be done in around a year or so. I was talking to a guy who does heating repair in Morris county NJ and trying to figure out exactly what it would cost to either fix the old heating and cooling system which I have or to replace it with a new system. I think that the obvious thing to do would be to get a new system, if that was going to be a reasonable thing that could be fit in the budget. I am not really sure that it is going to be possible.
The guy told me that he could fix the system and he said it might be worth the cost of the job. That would require it to hold on for a couple of years. It might not last through the Winter though. Either way at some point you would be right back in the same place where I am now and it would be time to cough up the money to buy a whole new system. If you could take the hit, and that would be several thousands of dollars I am told, then that would be the best thing in the long term. You should save money on your monthly power bill, the house would be warmer as well. Right now there is not a lot of warmth in the house when it gets cold, or that is what I was told.
The public’s opinion of contractors can be very skewed or jaded, and in some cases it can just be flat out wrong or even ignorant. There is little doubt that there are some bad contractors out there, but judging the overall market based on these duds is certainly unfair. The bottom line is that people who try to take advantage of others can be found anywhere, so it is not indicative of an industry and simply means that customers need to be careful. Sticking with a reputable heating contractor in Bergen County NJ can save a lot of headaches and money, so do not underestimate the importance.
Ultimately a good contractor is determined by the level of priority they put on a customer’s needs. Obviously anyone who can appreciate common sense in terms of the business world knows that getting jobs done fast and for more money will generate more revenue. However, a good contractor also relies on their reputation to get jobs so they are also interested in making customer’s happy. This means that if a job takes a little longer than anticipated because of unforeseen complications, they will stick to it and get it done in a timely fashion rather than running into overbooking situations.
Of course when hiring someone like this you are definitely placing a lot of trust in them to get the job done right. The two extreme ends of the spectrum include contractors that lie about the work that needs to be done in order to charge more and contractors that do not put in enough work to get the jobs done for which they are hired. Both cases can lead to even bigger problems down the road for customers, so aside from the initial waste of money it can be even worse in the long run.
